On Thursday, September 30, Edwin's grandmother María died of a heart attack. She died at home in the loving arms of her oldest daughter and her youngest daughter-in-law.
One of Edwin's fondest childhood memories is of Noy (Grandmother) María's storytelling. The children would carry in rolled-up petates (straw mats) to her house, unroll them and place them on the floor. They would sit, attentive, on the mats, and listen to her tell of all types of beings. Interwoven with her stories were lessons on relating to the natural world.
We feel so thankful that we visited Noy María in Mexico earlier this year. We mourn and remember her.
